the great train robbery: One of the earliest movies made, this last only 15-20 minutes. this movie is completely silent with only a music box playing along with the action. The plot is very basic (cops and robbers) but considering the fact that it was one of the first films made, it's good.

citizen kane: in my opinion, this movie sucked. Despite the fact that Orson Welles created a lot of different techniques in this movies (deep focus, etc), the plot is bland and the movie is very slow moving, and the whole "rosebud" mystery can be confusing for the average viewer, even when revealed at the end of the movie.

workers leaving the station: not really a movie, but more about the film maker being excited about the fact that he actually got the camera to work.

voyage to the moon: like the great train robbery, this film is completely silent except for the music box. in this film, however, the viewer can follow the film better because the characters speak through title cards that are shown every time some kind of dialog occurs.

wizard of oz: to put it short and simple, a classic. The change from black and white to color; from a poor town to a modern city is a bit prophetic itself because it shows how different television will become.
